Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia

Paestum is home to a museum and three magnificent Doric temples, which are thought to be dedicated to the city of the same name Poseidon (known to the Romans as Neptune), Hera and Ceres. The excavations of Velia for the Romans or Elea for the Greeks represent one of the jewels of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park.

Pertosa-Auletta Caves

Located in the massif of the Alburni Mountains, the Pertosa-Auletta Caves are one of the focal geosites of the “Cilento” Geopark and have two uniqueness: they are the only caves in Italy where it is possible to navigate an underground river, the Negro; but they are also the only ones in Europe to preserve the remains of a pile-dwelling village dating back to the second millennium BC.

Certosa di Padula

The beautiful Certosa di San Lorenzo makes the Municipality of Padula the main destination for religious tourism in Campania as well as being among the most evocative monuments of the Italian artistic heritage. The architectural style is almost mainly Baroque, in fact there are very few surviving traces of the fourteenth century. The complex has about 350 rooms and occupies an area of 51,500 m² of which 15,000 occupied only by the cloister, the largest in the world. The Charterhouse of San Lorenzo, thanks to its vast extension, is second only to the Charterhouse of Grenoble in France.

Castellabate

The city of Castellabate is located on a hill overlooking the wide coastal strip between Punta Licosa and the Promontory of Tresino. The name of the municipality recalls that the fortified village was built on the initiative of the abbot of Cava de Tirreni, Costabile Gentilcore, who requested authorization from the sovereign in 1123, to defend above all the important commercial ports of Licosa, San Marco and Santa Maria. .

Agropoli

Agropoli, the “Upper Town” of the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano and Alburni, is a splendid tourist resort south of Salerno. The crystalline "Blue Flag" sea, the UNESCO protected nature, the millenary history, the culture, the sport, the flavors, the authentic ones of the Mediterranean Diet UNESCO heritage, make Agropoli an enchanting place to live all year round.

Ancient Roscigno

The municipality of Roscigno is divided between Ancient Roscigno and New Roscigno, further downstream. Its history dates back to around the year 1000, when it was born as a village dedicated to agriculture. The historic center of Roscigno Vecchia is located on a hill, to defend itself, at the time, from any attacks from the sea. Today, of this historic center, there are only abandoned houses, and only one inhabitant: Giuseppe Spagnuolo.

Alento River Oasis

Located in the heart of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, within an area SIC (Site of Community Importance) of 3,024 hectares that includes a large part of the Alento river, the Alento River Oasis is a large natural park that offers a wide range of tourist services. Overall there is an earth dam which, barring the course of the river, creates an artificial lake of about 1.7 sq km. The naturalistic oasis develops along the right bank of the watercourse, consisting of lakes of important ecological value, which aims to help safeguard the richness of biodiversity through conservation activities. The integrity of the natural habitat of the Oasis has been an original attraction for families, schools and sportsmen for years.

Hair of Venus in Morigerati

The waterfall takes its name from the maidenhair plant, a type of fern widespread throughout the area. It is certainly the best known attraction even though there are many points of interest from a naturalistic and historical point of view throughout the territory.

Trails and Trekking

The Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park is a crossroads of numerous ancient paths and represents, along the southern Apennines, an important node in the national hiking network. Walking along the ancient itineraries that lead to the most evocative places in the park, among panoramas and landscapes that range from the sea, to the hills and to the mountains, the unspoiled nature of this protected area enchants and seduces.
